Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, Queen of Canada

Allan, I really don't know what to say to this post of yours. There is a huge difference between the NDP and Liberal approaches to the economy - namely, the NDP doesn't understand how the free market works, and don't understand the need to balance social, environmental, economic, and polar-bear-related goals. Right now, with the economy more or less tanking, we need a government willing to make tough calls on fiscal policy. The Liberals have dealt with recession before, and I'm really hoping they can do it again.

So far, it looks like the NDP isn't having their way with smothering the market, which is nice. If this ends up being a socially uberliberal but fiscally centrist government, that's basically optimal to me, and I'd say it would play nicely in any future election. Right now, people don't look too thrilled with the coalition - but the one-quarter of respondents who are undecided suggests (to me anyway) that there is lots of room for things to go really well or really poorly. Looking forward to more polling numbers - although these (pre-Coalition) number don't look too bad.

Also, really excited to see what Michaelle Jean does with the dilemma of accepting the Coalition, proroguing Parliament (as some have suggested Harper might do) or calling an election (which would be ridiculous, because would the results really change?). When's the last time the Queen's representative to the Dominion actually had say over who was going to be Prime Minister? Kind of awesome that the government is currently looking to our benevolent monarch to decide where to go next.
